Centrifuge Tubes Industry Knowledge Extension

Classification of centrifuge tubes
1. Type:
A large number of centrifuge tubes (500mL, 250mL) ordinary centrifuge tubes (50mL, 15mL) microcentrifuge tubes (2mL, 1.5mL, 0.65mL, 0.2mL)
Centrifuge tubes according to the shape of the bottom:
Conical centrifuge tube, with a conical bottom, is the most used type of centrifuge tube, flat bottom centrifuge tube, round bottom centrifuge tube
Centrifuge tubes according to the way the lid is closed:
Gland centrifuge tubes, centrifuge tubes that are sealed by pressing, are commonly found in microcentrifuge tubes and screw cap centrifuge tubes, and can be divided into flat caps (the top of the cap is flat) and plug caps (the top of the cap has a plug shape)
Centrifuge tubes are divided by material:
1. Glass centrifuge tubes: When using glass tubes, the centrifugal force should not be too large, and rubber pads are needed to prevent the tubes from breaking. Generally, high-speed centrifuges do not use glass tubes. The cap of the centrifuge tube is not closed enough, and the liquid cannot be filled up (for high-speed centrifuges and angle rotors are used) to prevent overflow and loss of balance. The consequence of spillage is to pollute the rotor and the centrifugal chamber, affecting the normal operation of the sensor. During ultracentrifugation, the centrifuge tube must be filled with liquid, because ultracentrifugation requires a high vacuum, and only filling can prevent the centrifuge tube from deforming.
2. Steel centrifuge tube: Steel centrifuge tube has high strength, no deformation, heat resistance, frost resistance, and chemical corrosion resistance. It is also widely used, but it should also avoid contact with strong corrosive chemicals, such as Strong acids, strong bases, etc. Try to avoid the corrosion of these chemicals.
3. Plastic centrifuge tube: The advantage of plastic centrifuge tube is that it is transparent or translucent, its hardness is small, and the sample can be taken out by puncture. The disadvantage is that it is easy to deform, has poor corrosion resistance to organic solvents, and has a short service life. Plastic centrifuge tubes have tube caps, which are used to prevent sample leakage, especially when used for radioactive or highly corrosive samples. It is very important to prevent sample leakage; the tube cap also has a role to prevent sample volatilization And support the centrifuge tube to prevent the deformation of the centrifuge tube. When choosing this point, you should also pay attention to check whether the tube cover is tight, and whether it can be tightly closed during the test, so as to achieve no leakage when inverted; we all know that in plastic centrifuge tubes, commonly used materials are polyethylene (PE), polyethylene Carbonate (PC), polypropylene (PP), etc. Among them, polypropylene PP tubes have relatively better performance, so we consider polypropylene plastic centrifuge tubes as much as possible when selecting plastic centrifuge tubes.

Precautions for selection and use of centrifugal tubes
1. When selecting plastic centrifuge tubes, consider polypropylene PP plastic centrifuge tubes as much as possible. Pay attention to check whether the cap of the tube is tight, and whether it can be tightly closed during the test, so as to achieve no leakage when inverted.
2. When we use centrifuge tubes, we should not use one tube multiple times. We should pay attention to the volatilization of samples and the leakage of some radioactive or corrosive samples; Deformation occurs during use.

How high temperature can centrifugal tubes withstand?
The centrifuge tube can be heated up to 80 degrees.. In the process of producing centrifuge tubes, the temperature of the injection molding machine to produce and process PP raw materials is 190°C, which means that the raw materials become fluid after being heated to 190°C in the injection molding machine and injected into the mold. The physical properties of the PP raw materials used show that the melting temperature of the PP material needs to reach at least 164°C. The heat distortion temperature is 80°C. That is to say, the heating temperature of the centrifuge tube should not exceed 80°C, otherwise it will be easily deformed, and then leakage will occur during the centrifugation process.
